Patrick passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton, at the age of 83.

He was deeply loved by his devoted soulmate, Kay; cherished by his son Garvin, daughter Helen (Jason), and granddaughter Emily. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters Dona, Patricia, cousins, (nieces) Michelle and Jacintha, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. Predeceased by his sister Joan. Born on December 15, 1941, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Patrick was a gifted soccer player/coach and long-distance runner who proudly represented Trinidad on the national team.

Even from a young age, he demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for electronics. Patrick moved to Canada in 1967 and began working in the nickel mines of Thompson, Manitoba. He later pursued formal studies in electronics at Red River College near Winnipeg. He spent the majority of his professional life as a technician at Xerox. Beyond his career, Patrick’s enduring legacy is found in music and culture. He was the founder of several steel bands across Canada, including the Winnipeg Steel Orchestra, Regina Steel Band, and PK Hummingbird Steel Orchestra.

Through PK Hummingbird, which performed regularly at community events and earned multiple “Best Band” awards at the Thorold Santa Claus Parade, Patrick tirelessly promoted Caribbean culture. In 2012, he was honored with the Good Citizen of Thorold award. PK Hummingbird has been a vibrant part of the cultural landscape for 27 years. The Nunes family extends heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of kindness and support during this time.
